Hello everyone, hope you are able to get out of your homes today a little bit. I also hope you have power today. Hey, we might get a little snow tonight!

Believe it or not the Groundhog predicts that spring is right around the corner. Can’t come fast enough if you ask me!

This Sunday the Lion and Lambs Fellowship will be discussing Chapter One from “Too Much Stuff.” Chapter One focuses on the author’s personal journey in de-cluttering her house and life. As we discussed in the prologue last week we saw how clutter led to her Mom’s early death since she stopped taking her medication because of the massive amounts of clutter in her house.

Some questions to consider this week…

1.) Do I still play “drop it” and “leave it”?

2.) What childhood habits do I need to change?

3.) What behaviors can I replace them with?

We will discuss those questions and much more. Even if you don’t have a book feel free to come by and participate in the discussion. If you want a book either email me or you can order one from Amazon or the Nazarene Publishing House online.

Hope you all have a great week. BTW, I’m going for the

Packers Sunday but my wife and son are going for the Steelers. Who are you pulling for?

Christian Minimalism

too much stuffThis Sunday (January 23rd, 2011), we will begin discussing a new book during our Sunday morning gatherings. The book we are featuring is Too Much Stuff: Decluttering Your Heart and Home by Kathryn Porter.

This book examines the importance of clearing out the material “stuff” that is clogging up our lives. The accumulation of things can easily distract us from our relationship with Christ and be a major stumbling block in our spiritual walk.

Reducing clutter is a popular meme these days. You can find advice about the subject on Oprah, TLC and numerous blogs. But for Christians the issues are much deeper than just a simple purging of our possessions.

Even if you do not have a copy of the book please come join in on our conversation this Sunday morning at 9:30 am. If you would like to order a book either contact Dave at dwhite@kaufmanisd.net or order directly from the Nazarene Publishing House. It’s also available on Amazon.

The May Sabbath

Posted by: | April 26, 2010 | No Comment |

LLFlyer5-1-10This Saturday (May 1st) we will celebrate our monthly Sabbath service. We will meet at the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 pm for a time of community celebration and worship. We will sing a few songs to God, share testimonies and requests and hear a brief sermon. The sermon will continue our look at the first group of Christians as seen in the second chapter of Acts. We will be focusing on the topic Community Prayer as modeled by the first church.

Afterwards, everyone is invited to continue our fellowship by heading over to the Taco Cabana to eat across I-30 from the church. Invite your friends, families, enemies, frenemies…everyone!

Please email me at dwhite@kaufmanisd.net for any questions…have a blessed week!

This Saturday, April 3rd, we will be having our EGG HUNT at 5 pm on the Church lawn. Invite every child you know! We will be having the Sabbath service immediately following the hunt at 6 pm.

We do need help organizing things and can use your help. On Saturday (April 3rd) we will be meeting at 4 pm at the church to put candy in the eggs. We will also need help hiding the eggs.

On Friday (April 2nd) we will be meeting at the church at 2 pm to distribute flyers to the neighborhood. Please consider joining us to get the word out. Last Saturday we passed out 150 flyers to the apartments and the street adjacent to the church. We want to get the word out to our community. This Friday meet us on the office side of the church. Hope to see you there.

 LL4-3-10Postcard

We had a great March Sabbath! Thanks to all who came, participated and/or prayed for the gathering. I, for one, felt the presence of the Holy Spirit…both in the service and the fellowship we had at Panera Bread afterwards.

Now it’s time to gear up for our very special April Sabbath on April 3rd.

We will be having an EASTER EGG HUNT for the children of our community at 5:00 pm on the west lawn of the church. All children are invited…and don’t be surprised if the Easter Bunny makes an appearance.

Immediately following we will be celebrating our April Sabbath at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone is invited and childcare will be provided. Afterwards everyone is invited to congregate at a local restaurant (TBD) for more fellowship. What a great way to usher in the next day Easter celebration!

Our goal is to have thirty people in our Sabbath service in April. Please prayerfully consider praying for boldness in inviting someone to this special service. God can even use a simple prayer like: “Please God, give me the opportunity and boldness to invite someone to church today.”

Let’s keep this day in our prayers!

The March Sabbath

Posted by: | March 2, 2010 | No Comment |

Just a final reminder about our next Sabbath service. We will be gathering together for community worship this Saturday, March 6th in the Fellowship Hall of Dallas Central Church of the Nazarene. Our service will begin at 6:00 pm.

We will worship together through singing songs of praise, praying and hearing a brief sermon. The sermon is a continuation of our look into the ideal community of believers found in the second chapter of Acts. Last week we discussed the importance of learning together as a community of faith. This week we will be focusing on the importance of  fellowship in the life of a community.

We will close our service as the early church did in sharing communion together.

Please keep the Sabbath in your prayers. Please pray that we can build a true community of faith right in the center of Dallas.

Afterwards, everyone is invited to continue our fellowship by breaking bread together at Panera Bread in Mesquite.

LentFastCard

Tuesday, February 16th, is Shrove Tuesday. The word “shrove” is the Old English word meaning “to repent.” In France it was known as Mardi Gras or “Fat Tuesday.” Unfortunately the Tuesday before Lent has become associated with activities not usually associated with Kingdom living.

Traditionally, Christian communities would come together and feast before the Holy Season of Lent. During Lent Christians would celebrate a sacred fast in remembrance of the time leading up to Easter.

The word Lent itself is derived from the Anglo-Saxon words lencten, meaning “Spring,” and lenctentid, which literally means not only “Springtide” but also was the word for “March,” the month in which the majority of Lent falls.

The Lion and Lamb Fellowship encourage you to consider fasting something for the Lent Season. I am giving up carbonated beverages. Think about giving up something for the forty days leading up to Easter.  The idea is keep our eyes focused on Christ during these weeks. My wife is giving up chocolate candy.

So on Shrove Tuesday…I’m enjoying my last Coca-Cola until April 2nd.

Click on the picture at the top of this post and print it off to serve as a reminder of your fast if you choose to participate. Write down what you intend to fast and then sign it. Keep it on your Bible or tack it to your fridge. From past experience I think you will find observing the fast a great enhancement to your walk with Christ.
